encosia.com — Taking a look at one feature on CodePlex that is much slower than it needs to be, due to indiscriminate use of UpdatePanels and bloated ViewState, and then comparing it to similar functionality on Stack Overflow to illustrate how much more efficiently the same feature can be implemented. read more...

sharpregion.com — SVN and TortoiseSVN are really great tools. It is a shame that these tools are used only by developers. I believe that every home should use SVN to keep track of it’s files.
The problem is that these tools are planned for developers. Using the file-system in windows is not a trivial task for everyone. In fact, sometimes people tend to be afraid of it. Not only using the file-system, but also using some client application that does not even have a window? And where do I get an SVN server anyway?!?
Keep reading. you might find it useful. read more...

blog.logeek.fr — Today it’s very clear to me that the same thing is going to happen: IronRuby or IronPython will be used for most of the daily code, while C# will gradually serve as an infrastructure. read more...

thevalerios.net — This post provides a complete implementation of a WinForms client calling a WCF service using Microsoft Concurrency and Coordination Runtime (CCR). We were able to write clean code that correctly interacted with the UI thread giving us a fully-responsive UI, were able to cache the service requests by posting them into the wrapper’s input port, we NEVER blocked a thread while waiting for asynchronous I/O, and handled all failure conditions cleanly.

atalasoft.com — The blog CMS we use is great in a lot of ways but it’s built in editor is really, really bad. Initially, I had used Microsoft Word to fill the gap, with disastrous results. Since then I have moved to using our blog software’s horribly antiquated text editing system but that has limited my formatting options quite considerably. Now, after a recommendation from a friend, I am giving Windows Live Writer a shot. This blog post is a recursive review of my experience writing this blog post in Windows Live Writer. read more...

devlicio.us — "At the users group I asked the question to the group 'who creates automated tests as part of their daily development cycle?'. After I asked this question I followed it up with, and if you don't WHY, WHY, WHY, WHY...... Below are some of the answers I received (btw, not the first time I have heard these reasons)." read more...

davesbox.com — This change will affect the behavior of the String.StartsWith, String.EndsWith, String.IndexOf and String.LastIndexOf methods by changing them to perform an ordinal (byte-for-byte) comparison by default instead of a culture-sensitive comparison using CultureInfo.CurrentCulture. In addition, the default overloads of String.ToUpper, String.ToLower, Char.ToUpper and Char.ToLower will be changed to use CultureInfo.InvariantCulture instead of CultureInfo.CurrentCulture. read more...
