stevenharman.net — Even though the Continuous Improvement in Software Development Conference may be over, there is still much work being done to distill and distribute the knowledge, value, and magic that happened made KaizenConf 2008 the great success it was. The community is working hard to process and upload several hundred Gigabytes of video, we promise! Steven has links to all of the important sites, the wiki, and several of the videos that are already posted. Enjoy! read more...

lostechies.com — From the article: "When I first started doing TDD, many of the new designs that came out of this practice seemed backwards and counterproductive at first. After all, I wound up with many more classes, lots of interfaces, and most interfaces had exactly one implementation." read more...

codebetter.com — As mentioned in a previous blog post, waste elimination is usually the most obvious and least resistant way to improve value and flow in a product. So I’m just going to jump right into some of the waste factors that are usually easy to identify, evaluate, modify and sustain their solutions in software product development. Not going to cover all forms of waste, just the most common ones. read more...

lostechies.com — Your First QUnit Test To start testing, you’ll need to start by creating an HTML page (MyFooTests.htm, for example). This page will need to reference the jquery core JS file, testrunner.js, testsuite.css, as well as the JS file containing the code you’re going to be testing. Lastly, the page will need some special HTML at the bottom with well-known ID’s so that QUnit can display its output. When you’re done, you should have a rough skeleton like this: read more...

mindscape.co.nz — The Visual Studio File Explorer Add-in (sexy name we know, but hey, it’s self documenting) is a free Tool Window add-in for VS 2008 that provides a Windows Explorer style file system view. It’s particularly useful for performing routine file system tasks without the need to “context switch” away from Visual Studio, which can be time-consuming over the course of days and weeks. It is shell-enabled so extensions like TortoiseSVN work too. read more...

frickinsweet.com — A fun little ASP.NET MVC Application I wrote to generate Visual Studio themes based off of 3 given colors. I have always felt that selecting every color to make a decent theme is way too repetitive. This web application automatically chooses complements / contrasts based off your initial color selections (and uses jQuery to let you preview your theme before creating). Check it out and let me know what you think. read more...
