Breaking changes to the String class in .NET 4.0

This change will affect the behavior of the String.StartsWith, String.EndsWith, String.IndexOf and String.LastIndexOf methods by changing them to perform an ordinal (byte-for-byte) comparison by default instead of a culture-sensitive comparison using CultureInfo.CurrentCulture.
Right or Left Click Context Menu Using jQuery Demo

In my seemingly never ending quest to find the coolest jQuery plugins I came across the jQuery Context Menu Plugin by Cory S.N. LaViska.

According to Cory's site, the plugin "features easy implementation, keyboard shortcuts, CSS styling, and control methods." I would say he definitely delivers on all four. One thing I wanted to be able to do though that I didn't find baked in was to call the menu with a left click instead of the plugin's standard right click so I could cater to the user who might not know about right clicking. This was easy enough to change though with just a few lines in the plugin to include an override to look for a left click.

Downloadable Hotfix: False C# compilation errors for ASP.NET code-behi

In SP1 for Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Web Developer 2008, C# introduced a new feature to provide 'live' reporting of compilation errors.
Unfortunately, the introduction of this functionality also introduced a bug where in certain cases, false C# compilation errors appear in the Error List for ASP.NET Website projects. The C# team just published a downloadable hotfix that addresses the issues.

Solving common problems with Compiled Queries in Linq to Sql for high

If you are using Linq to SQL, instead of writing regular Linq Queries, you should be using Compiled Queries. if you are building an ASP.NET web application that's going to get thousands of hits per hour, the execution overhead of Linq queries is going to consume too much CPU and make your site slow.
New .NET logo

Our team decided a while back to bring a fresh new look to the .NET logo, given the old was in need of a refresh to suite our future product positioning (I've been staring at this for a few weeks now and it's totally grown on me)....

Everything You Know About CSS Is Wrong by Rachel Andrew

Applying table-related display property values to web page elements causes the elements to mimic the display characteristics of their HTML table equivalents. In this article, Rachel Andrew demonstrate how this will have a huge impact on the way we use CSS for web page layouts.

Insidious Dependencies

Many dependencies in code are obvious, such as relying on a particular framework or database implementation. Others can easily be overlooked. This article exposes some of the more insidious dependencies that commonly exist within applications which may be overlooked as such.

ASP.NET MVC - View Model Inheritance

If you are new to MVC web development it can initially be tricky to figure out how to handle UI features that will be used by multiple views. In WebForms you would simply create a control that encapsulated this element's look and function. In order to handle the common view elements I organized the hard typed view models into an inheritance hierarchy.
